West Baden Hotel Trip

While researching “Landscape of Valor, The Sinclair Legacy,” we went on a journey through Indiana. I had come across the West Baden Hotel, which had been acquired and managed by my husband’s second great-grandfather, Lee Wiley Sinclair. 

As we drove into town, the road near the hotel bore the name “Sinclair.” Seeing the family name as a street name gave me goosebumps.

The view of the hotel grounds was breathtaking. It was a sight to behold—flowers, stately buildings, and a touch of the past. I had been wanting to visit this incredible place before I wrote about it in my book. Here we were, driving through the grounds, eagerly anticipating a late afternoon and an overnight stay at the hotel. 

At one point, it was regarded as “the 8th Wonder of the World, boasting a grand dome room and an expansive atrium.”

During our initial hours at the hotel, we were transported back in time, treated to breathtaking views, and provided with exceptional service. Despite being a modern hotel equipped with all the fine amenities, it exudes an old-world charm. The library, the statues in the atrium, and the opulent interiors contribute to this ambiance. 

We settled into our room and decided to have a late lunch in the atrium. I’ll share more about our adventure later this week. Check back.
